Akshay Kumar is currently riding high on the success of his recently released film, Sky Force, co-starring Veer Pahariya. Now, he is all set to be seen in a historical drama that will also stars R Madhavan and Ananya Panday in key roles. It was recently reported that the film, which was rumored to be titled Shankara, is about acclaimed lawyer C Sankaran Nair, who fought a legal battle against the British empire in the 1920s. It is based on the book The Case That Shook the Empire by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. Now, the fresh development suggests that the film has been titled Kesari Chapter 2. Read on...

Akshay Kumar's Shankara gets a name change

Backed by Karan Johar, the film is slated to hit theatres on 14th March 2025, during the occasion of Holi. The new report as per Bollywood Hungama suggests that the makers have renamed the film as Kesari Chapter 2. The 2019 film Kesari was about the Battle of Saragarhi, Kesari Chapter 2 is based on an entirely different historical event. A source told the portal, "Kesari, an emotional action film, was about the sacrifice of Sikhs during the pre-Independence era. The C Sankaran Nair film is a courtroom drama and, in that regard, it is very different from the 2019 film. However, since it also deals with the brave Sikh community’s contribution and sacrifice against the British and stars Akshay Kumar, the makers felt that Kesari Chapter 2 is an apt title. Coincidentally, just like Kesari, Kesari Chapter 2 also releases on the Festival of Colours."

More about Akshay Kumar's film

The film was announced in October 2024. It will mark the directorial debut of writer Karan Singh Tyagi. While sharing the announcement on social media, the makers wrote, "An unknown story an unheard truth. Starring Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan & Ananya Panday - this untitled film is releasing in cinemas on 14th March, 2025. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi." It will showcase the shocking cover-up of a massacre that pushed India's top barrister C Sankaran Nair to fight an unprecedented battle against the British Empire.

The book explored the 1924 defamation trial in which Michael O'Dwyer, former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab and the architect of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, sued Sankaran.

With a historical subject, stellar cast, and the perfect festive occasion, it is one of the most awaited films of 2025.
