Amitabh Bachchan announces theatrical release date for Chehre

Chehre, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi, was gearing up for a theatrical release earlier this year, but had to be pulled back due to the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. Bachchan has now announced that the mystery thriller will hit theatres on August 27.

The superstar made the announcement about the theatrical release through a Twitter post. “CAUTION You have been warned! Be ready to #FaceTheGame kyunki yeh ilzaam aap par bhi lag sakta hai. #Chehre, releasing on 27th August in cinemas near you,” wrote the actor.

A video of the veteran actor in his brooding look from the movie accompanies the post. The movie was initially announced in April 2019 and production began shortly. The makers were planning to release the movie in July 2020, but this was delayed due to the pandemic.

Now that an official release date has been announced, Chehre will follow Akshay Kumar-starrer Bell Bottom as the second movie to release in theatres and initiate an unlocking of the cinemas. 

Chehre is helmed by Rumi Jafry, who is known for directing movies like Gali Gali Chor Hai and God Tussi Great Ho. Bankrolled by Anand Pandit under the banner of Anand Pandit Motion Pictures, the movie has music by Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani while Binod Pradhan is the cinematographer. 

With Bachchan and Hashmi in the lead, Chehre also features Krystle D’Souza, Rhea Chakraborty, Siddhanth Kapoor and Annu Kapoor.

Bachchan was last seen in Gulabo Sitabo in 2020 that was directed by Shoojit Sircar. The veteran actor has a number of films in the pipeline with Jhund and Brahmastra under production. Hashmi was last seen in Sanjay Gupta’s Mumbai Saga and is part of movies like Ezra and Tiger 3.
