Animal - Kiran Rao says 'I want to watch the film, it’s necessary' as she praises Sandeep Reddy Vanga's craft

Laapataa Ladies director Kiran Rao said that she would like to watch Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal as it has become a massive success.

Director-producer Kiran Rao is currently enjoying the acclaim of her recently released film, Laapataa Ladies. Earlier, when Kiran addressed misogyny in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's previous film, Kabir Singh, the Animal filmmaker took an indirect dig at her. Now, in a recent interview, she expressed her eagerness to watch Animal, acknowledging the buzz around Ranbir Kapoor starrer.

In a recent interview with The Lallantop, Rao spoke about the good response her film Laapataa Ladies has gotten. She expressed gratitude for the support and love that critics and audiences have given her film. However, she also pointed out that how audiences are more inclined towards action-packed films, and hence she was surprised by the love she received for her film.

Kiran Rao wants to watch Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal

She then mentioned Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal and said that she has heard that his craft is really good and she wants to watch the film. She said, "The audience likes action-packed, VFX-heavy films these days. Films like Animal. I want to watch the film, it’s necessary. It has done so well because people have loved it. I’ve heard that Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s craft is really good. Ranbir (Kapoor) is also a good actor. It will be an interesting watch for me, people seem to love it."

For the unversed, in 2023, while speaking at a session, Kiran Rao, according to TOI cited Kabir Singh as an example of how films that 'glorify stalking to exceedingly well.' Later, Animal director, Vanga hit back at her while speaking to Dainik Bhasker and said 'go ask Aamir Khan' about the lyrics of one of his songs, 'Khambe Jaisi Khadi Hai' from the 1990 film, Dil that glorified misogyny. 

Post this, Aamir Khan's old video of apologising also went viral where he said that he was 'ashamed' that he was a part of films that did not portray women well. Speaking about the same with Quint, Kiran said, "There are very few people who would look back at their body of work and apologise for doing something problematic in retrospect."

Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol and Triptii Dimri starrer Animal was one of the bigeest blockbusters of 2023. The film earned more than 900 crore at box office.
