Kiran Rao recently spoke about Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Kabir Singh, reportedly saying it glorifies stalking.
The discourse that Animal provoked in pop culture is one that only a few films manage to achieve, regardless of the positive or negative impact. The Ranbir Kapoor-led movie has been the talk of the town for over two months now , and it doesn’t seem like the buzz around it is fading anytime soon. Labelled misogynistic and problematic by many, this is director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s second Hindi film after Kabir Singh. It was recently reported that Kiran Rao spoke about the latter and commented on how the Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer glorified stalking. Vanga has now decided to hit back.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who is busy defending his brand of cinema for the past many days, has now decided to reply to Kiran Rao, who accused Kabir Singh of glorifying stalking. The filmmaker said that some people don’t understand what they are saying, as he saw an article that had a ‘superstar’s former second wife’ (as said by Sandeep Reddy Vanga) saying Baahubali and Kabir Singh promoted stalking and were misogynistic. “I think she doesn’t understand the difference between stalking and approaching,” he said.
The Animal director then went on to take a dig at Kiran Rao through an Aamir Khan movie Dil that released in 1990 and also starred Madhuri Dixit. He advised Kiran to go and ask Aamir about that movie and how that film also had a problematic plot where he almost raped the heroine, and they fall in love.
“I want to tell that woman to go and ask Aamir Khan about the song ‘Khambe jaisi khadi hai’, what was that? Then come back to me. If you remember Dil, he almost attempts rape, he makes her feel like she has done the wrong thing. And they fall in love after that. What was all that? I don’t understand why they attack like that before checking the surroundings,” Sandeep Reddy Vanga said.
Animal has earned a bomb at the global box office with over Rs 900 crore in the kitty. The movie has been creating headlines for a while. It was recently when the official Twitter handle of the movie gave a very demeaning reply to veteran poet-writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar after he criticized Animal. Netizens had called out the makers for the same. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
