Fresh off the success of his latest films Twenty One Grams and CBI 5: The Brain – both of which have been trending on OTT platforms after their release earlier this month, Anoop Menon is now shooting for the final schedule of Kannan Thamarakkulam’s political-thriller Varaal in London.
The movie, which is among the first Malayalam movies to be shot in the UK since the pandemic after Lena and Nimisha Sajayan’s Footprints on Water, is also scripted by the actor. Anoop recently took to his social media page to inform that the final schedule of the film, which also has Prakash Raj, Sunny Wayne, Renji Panicker and Honey Rose, is currently on in London.
The multi-starrer, which first went on floors in September last year, had wrapped up its previous portions in 2021 itself, before Anoop proceeded to shoot for CBI 5: The Brain. The movie’s director Kannan, who had worked with the actor-scriptwriter in Vidhi: The Verdict, had earlier told us that Varaal will be an out-and-out political thriller that reflects the current socio-political scenario and the script presents that the lives of politicians and their politics in a hitherto-unseen perspective.
Varaal will have Prakash Raj playing the role of Kerala chief minister while Anoop Menon plays a politician. Sunny Wayne and Renji Panicker play the other pivotal roles in this multi-starrer, which also has Shankar Ramakrishnan, Suresh Krishna, Madhuri Briganza and Saikumar. “About 50 mainstream artistes are part of the movie and all of them play politicians,” Kannan had earlier told us in an exclusive interview.
Despite being shot during the pandemic, the filmmaker said that they have not scaled down on the locations or the visuals. The big budget film has several scenes featuring over 100 artistes and the team assured that all precautions were taken while these were filmed. Meanwhile, Anoop Menon is also gearing up the release of his directorial debut Padma, which has Surabhi Lakshmi in the lead.
