Mammootty and Jyothika’s emotional drama Kaathal - The Core, which was recently released on Amazon Prime Video, continues to receive praise from celebrities and viewers, with many posting their reviews online. The latest to do this is Malayalam actor Anoop Menon, who took to his Facebook page to share his review of the emotional legal drama. Anoop compared Jeo Baby’s film to legendary Malayalam directors like KG George, Padmarajan, A K Lohithadas, Bharathan and MT Vasudevan Nair.

Anoop Menon’s cryptic review of Mammootty and Jyotika starrer Kaathal - The Core

Anoop wrote, “Saw KAATHAL. ...at a time where original malayalam cinema was stooping low to mindless masala fares of Telugu and bollywood, the shockingly original director jeo baby with his amazingly talented writers Adarsh and paulson has brought back the ethos and elegance that the likes of k g George, padmarajan, lohithadas, bharathan and MT had bestowed on malayalam cinema..those films had made us what we are before the world ..truly distinct...in Kaathal, how deftly these three handled such a delicate subject and handed it to a diverse and divided society (sic).”

“The love story of Mathew and Omana transcends the physical.. The track shot of mathew looking at the lonely kitchen after Omana leaves is so painful and poignant..the one in which Omana says ‘I am fighting for your love too’ to mathew leaves you spellbound by the brevity of intent..the background score and cinematography is seamless..the scene at the square where mathew and Thankan meet amidst a sordid summer rain will go down as one of the most poetic moments in our cinema ever.and Mamukka ,you will be remembered for eternity as the only actor who could straddle every possible kind of cinema with equal aplomb...without you lending your stardom, Jeo couldn’t have reached such a large audience or even made this film ..thank you from an ardent film lover for this mighty magnanimity .. (sic),” the actor added.

Netizens react to Anoop Menon’s ‘Telugu and Bollywood’s masala fares’ remark

The actor’s “Telugu and Bollywood’s masala fares” comment has now caught the attention of some users, who hit back at Anoop for trying to bring down other industries while praising another. One Facebook user said, “He shouldn’t generalise an industry by making such remarks like ‘commercial or masala films’ and that making such films is not a way of ‘stooping low’.”

Nonetheless, other users hailed the actor for appreciating Kaathal and taking time out to pen his thoughts on Mammootty's film.

The Malayalam actor was last seen in Ohh...Cinderella opposite Bigg Boss Malayalam winner Dilsha Prasannan. The movie failed to impress audiences and sank without a trace at the box office. The actor will be seen next in Midhun Manuel Thomas’ medical crime thriller Abraham Ozler, which is headlined by Jayaram. Anoop is also a part of the Sreenath Bhasi-starrer LLB: Life Line of Bachelors, which is directed by AM Sidhique.
