It’s no secret that Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is a huge fan of Malayalam movies. He has always talked highly of the content and actors from the Malayalam film industry, including his wish to bring together actors such as Shah Rukh Khan and Fahadh Faasil.

On Wednesday, he made another request, in his trademark tongue-in-cheek way, by asking for a role in Neelavelicham director Aashiq Abu’s next, Rifle Club . The Gangs of Wasseypur filmmaker had commented after the Malayalam director had put out a casting call on his social media page.

The casting call of the film, which has Soubin Shahir and Dileesh Pothan in the lead, enquired about interested actors between the ages of 25 and 40 from “all genders and body types”.

Anurag was quick to comment, “You need a North Indian actor from Mumbai for a cameo?” Aashiq responded, “Yes sirji, most welcome.” It remains to be seen if Anurag will indeed be part of the film, which is scripted by Varathan scriptwriter duo Suhas and Sharfu, along with Dileesh Karunakaran.

The Bollywood filmmaker, who was recently seen in an interesting role in Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Haddi, is no stranger to acting in South films. He had played a cop in Nayanthara’s Tamil movie Imaikkaa Nadodigal and is also part of the much-anticipated Lokesh Kanagaraj film Leo , which has Thalapathy Vijay in the lead.

He had also collaborated with Malayalam filmmakers as a producer in the past decade. Anurag had co-produced Moothon, which had Nivin Pauly and Roshan Mathew in the lead and was helmed by Geetu Mohandas, who is rumoured to helm her next with KGF star Yash. The filmmaker was also onboard as a producer for Nithin Lukose’s Paka (River of Blood).

Meanwhile, Aashiq recently made his debut as a cinematographer in Mathew Thomas’ Lovely, which is directed by Rifle Club co-scriptwriter Dileesh. The movie is expected to hit theatres later this year.
