Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap admits that he has reached that juncture of life where if he doesn't like a film, he doesn't mind not watching the whole of it. "I never did that before. I used to sit till the end," he says in a recent freewheeling conversation with the media outlet, Film Companion. Anurag adds that having undergone a self-reflective journey over the last couple of years, he now realizes the value of time and that the thumb rule that now applies to a film, also does to a book that he has picked up.

"Books, I give them a try longer than a film. But then I give up after I am sure that it will ultimately be rewarding. I would go for something that immediately sucks me in," adds the Kennedy maker.

"I want to watch Raj B Shetty's Toby"

But that said, the zesty cinephile in him is far from defused because at any given point, evidently, he has a small watchlist on his list. When probed about what he is currently watching, Anurag Kashyap replies that he is going to watch Nagaraj Manjule's upcoming Marathi film and at the same time, he expressed great interest in watching Raj B Shetty's Toby.

"I want to watch Raj B Shetty's film but it is playing so far away [from where I live] and I wrote to him and asked him to show the film to me somehow. I am waiting for his response. I really liked GGVV (Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana) very much so, for me, he is one of the filmmakers I look up to from Karnataka," said Anurag Kashyap.

"What a brilliant film"

Of course, many would remember that Anurag Kashyap sang high praise for Raj B Shetty's previous film, Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana, when it had just released in theatres in 2021. The Gangs of Wasseypur director put the film in the same bracket as some of the best modern South Indian gangster flicks like Subramanipuram, Angamaly Diaries and Vada Chennai.

Raj Shetty's latest film, Toby, again sees him in a rather alluring role and the actor has won plaudits for his performance. Raj has also written the film with Basil Alchalakkal, his former associate, directing it - Toby released in theatres on August 25 and is currently playing in theatres.
