Ram Charan and Kiara Advani's pan-India film, Game Changer is the first big release of 2025. The Shankar directorial will finally hit theatres on January 10 after a long delay. The team is currently busy promoting the film in full swing. Recently, a grand event took place in Dallas, USA. A statement of Shankar from the event went viral on the internet. He was heard saying that he had made Game Changer to suit the audiences' short attention spans. It looks like the comment has not gone down well with Anurag Kashyap. In a new interview, Kashyap criticized the ace director for his statement.
During a recent event in the US, Shankar, who has made films like Robot, Sivaji: The Boss, 2.0, and others, said that the structure of his film Game Changer is designed to cater to current viewing habits, likening its format to a series of Instagram Reels stitched together. Now, when Anurag Kashyap sat for an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, he voiced his concern over a growing trend among filmmakers.
He said, "I was reading this statement by Shankar sir saying, ‘Today’s audience’s (attention) span has become very short. They watch Reels. So, we have kept that in mind while doing Game Changer.’ Now I don’t know what that means! We’ll only know when we see the film."
Kashyap further spoke about a lot of filmmakers who have started believing in this trend. He added, "A lot of filmmakers are talking in this language like, ‘My film is just like Reels put together because that’s what the audience wants to watch.’ Filmmakers who, at one time for me, were like chefs for me, creating things, are becoming caterers. The moment one starts thinking in terms of what audience wants to watch, that is where the decline begins. Audience is not an organism, it is a massive sea of people. For everything, there is an audience."
Apart from Ram Charan and Kiara Advani, Game Changer also stars Anjali, Samuthirakani, SJ Suryah, Srikanth, Prakash Raj, and Sunil in pivotal roles. Director Karthik Subbaraj has penned the story, while Shankar and Venkatesan worked on the screenplay. S Thaman has composed the songs and original score. Fans are eagerly waiting for the film to be released on January 10.
