Sundar C's Aranmanai is one among the two popular horror-comedy franchises in Kollywood. The first installment, which turned out to be a runaway hit, was released in 2014. It was followed by the second and third outings in 2016 and 2021 respectively.
Interestingly, the director was seen essaying crucial roles in all the three installments. However, the last outing in the series, starring Arya and Raashi Khanna in lead roles, evoked poor response from critics and audience. The movie was expected to draw audiences to theatres after movie halls reopened in Tamil Nadu after the second lockdown.
Now, we hear that the filmmaker is planning to come up with a fourth installment, leaving film buffs surprised. Many were under the assumption that the lukewarm reception to the third outing would put an end to the franchise. But it looks like Sundar C wants to revive the series with a new star cast.
According to sources, Vijay Sethupathi is likely to come on board as the lead in Aranmanai 4. An official confirmation is awaited on the same, though. Sundar's last directorial project, Coffee With Kadhal, which hit the screens in November, did not leave an impact among moviegoers.
He was said to rework on the once shelved big budget project Sangamitra, which was supposed to have Jayam Ravi and Arya in lead roles. We have to wait and watch to know which film would the director take up first.
He also has a few films in his kitty which have him essaying lead roles in them. Thalai Nagaram 2, One 2 One and Vallaan are a few of them. On the other hand, Sethupathi will next be seen in Michael and Farzi which are slated for release in February.
