We have earlier reported that Arindam Sil may recreate Tapan Sinha’s iconic film, Jhinder Bondi. According to the latest report, Anirban Bhattacharya and Jissu U Sengupta may play the lead in the film that will be produced by SVF. In Sinha’s masterpiece, Uttam Kumar and Soumitra Chatterjee played the lead.
According to the report on Anandabazar Online, producer Rana Sarkar was keen to produce a recreation of Jhinder Bondi. First, it was Anjan Dutt and then Parambrata Chatterjee’s name cropped up as the director.
As per our reports, Andhadhun-fame scriptwriter-director Arijit Biswas, who works keenly with Sriram Raghavan, has been working on the script for the last year. Scripting is in its final stage. It will be billed as a period piece with an elaborate scale but it will be significantly different from the original one. The other cast and crew are yet to be decided. The film may go on the floors next year. When contacted, the makers refused to comment on the project.

Recently, Arirban and Jisshu worked together on Srijit Mukherji’s Puja release, Dawshom Awbotaar, which saw significant success at the box office. Anirban is currently busy shooting Arna Mukhopadhyay’s Athhoi. Based on Shakespeare’s Othello, Arna had staged a theatre production, Athhoi, a few years back. The play was an instant hit. Anirban and Arna both played the leads – Othello and Iago’s adaptation respectively. They will play the same characters in the film. After Turna Das’ portrayal of Desdemona in the play, Sohini Sarkar took over. She will be the Desdemona in the film.
