Director B. Unnikrishnan's latest directorial outing Christopher broke the winning streak of Mammootty. The 71-year-old superstar was riding a massive wave of critical and commercial success for over a year with movies like Bheeshma Parvam, Rorschach, Puzhu and most recently Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam. And it seemed Mammootty could do no wrong until he starred in Christopher.

Christopher was released in cinemas earlier in February at a time when Mammootty's delicious performance in Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam was still fresh in mind. The film received poor ratings from the critics and stuck out like a sore thumb in Mammootty's recent slate of movies. Judging from the final global box office numbers of Christopher, the film has also been rejected by movie-going audiences.

According to reports, Christopher earned little more than just Rs 5 crore from its theatrical run in Kerala. The movie's dismissal performance also continued in other parts of the country and overseas markets. The film's four-week global collection is said to be less than Rs 10 crore. It's one of the biggest commercial disasters in Mammootty's career. Christopher is said to have made on the budget of Rs 25 crore.

A month after its initial theatrical release, Christopher has been made available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Unnikrishnan has helmed the movie from a script written by Udaykrishna. The movie tells the tale of a cop who plays judge, jury and executioner. Mammootty's Christopher is known for unapologetically exploiting his powers to deliver vigilante-style justice to criminals he catches. The film also stars Vinay Rai, R. Sarathkumar, Sneha, Amala Paul, Aishwarya Lakshmi, Aditi Ravi, Shine Tom Chacko, Deepak Parambol and Siddique in the supporting cast.
