Director Surender Reddy is one of the most celebrated filmmakers in Telugu cinema, known for his stylish and high-energy storytelling. However, ever since his last film, Agent, starring Akhil Akkineni, failed at the box office, he has largely remained out of the spotlight. Now, as Agent is set to make its OTT debut on March 17, 2025, both the film and its director are once again making headlines.
According to the latest industry reports, Surender Reddy recently met veteran star Venkatesh and narrated the concept of an action-comedy film. A source close to the director has revealed that Venkatesh appreciated the basic premise and has requested a full narration, which is expected to take place in the coming weeks. If the project receives the green light, it could mark a crucial career revival for Surender Reddy.
Meanwhile, Venkatesh has been selective about his next project after the success of Sankranthiki Vasthunnam. Though he has heard multiple scripts from various filmmakers, he has yet to finalize his next venture. If Surender Reddy’s film gets approved, it will be produced on a grand scale by Nallamalupu Bujji.

Industry insiders suggest that following the success of Sankranthiki Vasthunnam, Venkatesh is keen on doing a lighthearted entertainer, as expectations from him have soared after his comedic performance in the film. He is also reportedly in discussions with top production houses such as Sithara Entertainments and Mythri Movie Makers, the producers of Pushpa.
Venkatesh's previous film before Sankranthiki Vasthunnam, Saindhav, was a box-office disappointment. The actor attributed its failure to an unfavorable release period. Now, having made a strong comeback, Venkatesh is being cautious about his future projects, opting for roles that align with his age and audience expectations. In Sankranthiki Vasthunnam, he portrayed a father of four who embarks on a mission with his wife and ex-girlfriend, a role that resonated well with the family audience and brought them back to theaters.
Moving forward, Venkatesh plans to focus on commercial entertainers for the big screen while experimenting with diverse content on OTT platforms. His upcoming web series, Rana Naidu 2, is expected to premiere soon. As for Surender Reddy’s film, Venkatesh’s final decision will depend on the complete narration, which is set to take place in the near future.
