Veteran actor Ashutosh Rana has confirmed that he will reprise his role as Colonel Sunil Luthra in the upcoming YRF Spy Universe films, including the highly anticipated War 2 and Alpha. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, the actor expressed his excitement about being part of the ever-expanding franchise.
Colonel Luthra’s importance in the Spy Universe
Rana, when asked about his return to the action-packed universe that has captivated audiences worldwide, told the entertainment portal that, of course, he will be there. Colonel Luthra, after all, is an important character in the franchise.
The YRF Spy Universe, spearheaded by Aditya Chopra, has been a massive success with blockbusters like War (2019), Pathaan (2023), and Tiger 3 (2023). Rana’s portrayal of the authoritative Colonel Luthra has been a crucial part of the narrative, connecting various installments of the franchise.
With War 2 featuring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, and Alpha starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, the excitement surrounding the upcoming projects is at an all-time high.
Ashutosh Rana’s role in Chhaava
Apart from his involvement in the Spy Universe, Rana is also making waves with his latest historical drama, Chhaava, directed by Laxman Utekar. Speaking about the film, he emphasized the dedication of the cast and crew to bringing the story to life.
He stated that Utekar did a tonne of research, and his co-stars have likewise performed admirably. In Chhaava, Rana thinks the audience will witness real people acting, not just actors playing a part. There are no actors in this film; there are only characters. And when that occurs, the movie will definitely be a hit.
Ashutosh Rana's diverse filmography
Rana’s versatility has been evident throughout his illustrious career, spanning from intense roles in Dushman (1998) to his impactful performance in Pathaan (2023). Reflecting on his diverse filmography, he said his cinema showcases a diverse range of characters with varying temperaments and hues. Loveyapa was on February 7 and Chhaava was on February 14. His next appearance will be in the mature love story Kaushaljis vs. Kaushal on JioHotstar on February 21.
On being asked about his potential return to Rohit Shetty’s cop universe, given his role in Simmba (2018), Rana kept things open-ended, reiterating his dedication to portraying a range of characters. He remarked that he considers himself lucky to have been offered a variety of opportunities. The actor was able to play these roles with utmost honesty due to the overwhelming support from the audience.
