Asif Ali and Namitha Pramod’s romantic-thriller A Ranjith Cinema begins shooting in Thiruvananthapuram

While Asif Ali is yet to have a direct-to-OTT release, the actor has been doing projects back-to-back since the lockdown was lifted last year. His latest movie A Ranjith Cinema, which began shooting in Thiruvananthapuram, has him teaming up with Namitha Pramod.

The film, directed by debutant Nishanth Sattu, was announced more than a year ago. Nishanth, who had assisted filmmakers such as Shafi, Amal Neerad and Santosh Sivan, had said A Ranjith Cinema is a family-oriented romantic-thriller that travels through multiple genres.

In the movie, Asif’s character suffers a psychological breakdown and the suspense element is whether he and his family recovers from the trauma. While the title might signify a movie within a movie, the director had said that it’s not in the typical format that the audience expects and A Ranjith Cinema is a commercial entertainer that evolves in an urban backdrop.

Sunoj Velayudhum is the cinematographer of the film, which has Midhun Ashokan and Dileep Dennis as the composer and editor, respectively. Apart from Asif and Namitha, A Ranjith Cinema also has Saiju Kurup, Anson Paul and Balachandra Menon in pivotal roles.

Meanwhile, Asif recently completed shooting for Sibi Malayil’s Kothu, which is a political drama that also has Sudev Nair and Nikhila Vimal as part of the cast. He also has a host of upcoming releases including Rajeev Ravi’s Kuttavum Shikshayum, Jis Joy’s untitled thriller and RJ Mathukutty’s debut directorial Kunjeldho, which is slated to hit theatres across Kerala on December 24 this year.
