Athiradi: Zarin Shihab and Darshana Rajendran join Tovino Thomas, Basil Joseph's film

The upcoming Malayalam film Athiradi, which brings together actor Tovino Thomas, actor-filmmaker Basil Joseph and actor-director Vineeth Sreenivasan, has been making significant buzz ever since its announcement. In an exciting update, online trackers have revealed that actresses Zarin Shihab and Darshana Rajendran have also joined the cast.

Zarina Shihab, who was recently seen in Ithiri Neram along with Roshan Mathew, will now feature in Athiradi. Darshana Rajendran, who was accorded the Special Jury Award at the recently mentioned Kerala State Film Awards, is the other exciting addition to Athiradi. However, details of the new cast additions have not been officially confirmed by the team.

Athiradi is helmed by Arun Anirudhan, who has co-written films such as Minnal Murali and Biju Menon’s Padayottam. Given that both films had good amounts of humour and action, fans can expect Athiradi to be a pakka entertainer as well. Notably, Darshana had earlier starred with Basil Joseph in the popular Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, where they played a sparring marital couple.

Athiradi shooting schedule

Athiradi, which marks the first production venture of actor-filmmaker Basil Joseph, had gone on floors in October 2025. The first schedule was completed earlier this month. Online trackers have said that the second schedule will start on November 18, however, Tovino Thomas is expected to join by November 23. Riya Shibu, the young producer, will also appear as one of the female leads, it is being reported. Riya is the sister of actor Hridhu Haroon, who was last seen in the hit Tamil movie Dude.

The Athiradi title teaser was announced on October 18, with Vineeth Sreenisvasan introducing the characters of Tovino and Basil as friends-turned-foes who cannot see eye-to-eye. Interestingly, Basil and Tovino are friends in real life and have frequently collaborated on several projects with Tovino leading two of Basil’s directorial ventures - Godha and the superhero story Minnal Murali.
