Golden Star Ganesh reunites with pal and filmmaker Preetham Gubbi for one of this week’s Kannada releases – Baanadariyalli. With a title inspired by a song sung by the late Puneeth Rajkumar, the film was described by the team as being a story about love and not a love story. The film opened with a few limited premiere shows in Bengaluru and Mysuru on September 27 and the feedback that has been coming in from audiences has, so far, been mixed.
Among those who liked the film, the fact that Preetham used his leading man’s strengths in comedy and emotional sequences well was an oft highlighted point, with current flavour of the season Rukmini Vasanth’s performance as well as that of Ranganayana Raghu also being spoken about. “No one can do emotional scenes like Golden Star Ganesh,” was a commonly seen comment. Cinematographer Abhilash Kalathi also received a lot of praise for his skilful presentation of the India and Africa portions of the film.
Several movie-goers, though, pointed out that the lack of novelty in the story was a downer. “@Official_Ganesh should concentrate in selecting good scripts. This is not the movie for your caliber level especially in present competitive cinema world!”, was one comment, while another chimed in, “Script, screenplay and background score are below average. Routine story with slow pace”.
Baanadariyalli is Ganesh’s third film with director Preetham and sees him play Siddharth, an entrepreneur and aspiring cricketer. A man with a short fuse, Siddharth has a changeover when he falls head-over-heels in love with Leela (Rukmini Vasanth), a swimming coach and part-time eco-warrior. When Sid then loses the love of his life, it sends him on a journey of healing this wound and finding closure. The film, which has music by Arjun Janya, also stars Rangayana Raghu and Reeshma Nanaiah in pivotal roles.
