Director Mohan G, who has been courting controversy for allegedly portraying sensitive topics in a regressive manner, hit the headlines when he announced that he is making Bakasuran with Selvaraghavan in the lead. The latter received flak from Twitterati for associating with the controversial filmmaker.
The film, a revenge thriller, hit the screens on February 17 and opened to mixed reviews. Though the director claimed that the movie touched upon a pertinent issue on society, critics lashed out at its misogynistic approach in storytelling and presentation. Selva's performance, however, received praise from a few quarters.
The likes of Anurag Kashyap, Karthi and GV Prakash among others had wished success for Selva after the movie's release, leaving many confused. It has now dropped on Amazon Prime Video, and movie buffs have been coming up with their opinions.
Mohan has now taken to social media to post a video which has him requesting people to watch the movie in order to create an awareness on several relevant problems faced by women today. He pointed out a few recent incidents involving sexual assault on women that happened in Tamil Nadu to support his claims.
Mohan added that there was an orchestrated propaganda to make his film flop in theatres and that many who skipped it in theatres are now appreciating him for making Bakasuran. He requested everyone to watch the movie along with their family members so as to ward off communication problems among them.
"When I began working on the film, my intention was not to bag an award for it or its commercial success. I wanted the message dealt in it to reach the maximum number of people. It would be great if teachers could screen Bakasuran in colleges," he added.
