The five-episode anthology Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidiyaadhaa, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video a week ago, had opened to positive reviews from the audience and critics alike. Though this is the second instalment of the anthology Putham Pudhu Kaalai which released on the OTT platform in 2020, the actors, filmmakers and situations are different this time.
However, like the first part, this time, too, the stories which are set against the backdrop of lockdown, revolve around hope, happiness, bonding between people and new beginnings. Balaji Mohan, who directed Mugakavasa Mutham with Teejay Arunasalam and Gouri G Kishan, explains how the second instalment is different from the first instalment.
He says, "The primary difference between the first and second part lies in the diverse voices coming out from the stories in both the anthologies. Every filmmaker thinks that his or her story should be different whenever they collaborate with others for an anthology. Putham Pudhu Kaalai Vidiyaadhaa was no different."
The filmmaker adds that he was quite excited to watch the segments of other filmmakers who were associated with the project. "It was good to watch stories from many creative geniuses. What made me glad was that the stories this time had raised the bar of the anthology in Tamil. It is heartening to hear people say that this is one of the best anthologies made in the recent times," he said.
The five-episode series started streaming on Amazon Prime Video from January 14, on Pongal festival. Halitha Shameem's Loners, Suriya Krishna's The Mask, Richard Anthony's Nizhal Tharum Idham and Madhumitha's Mouname Paarvayaai are the other four segments in the anthology.
Balaji Mohan is currently producing an untitled web series which has Prasanna, Dhanya Balakrishna and Suresh Chakravarthy playing lead roles.
