The shooting of Dileep's action film Bandra, helmed by Ramaleela director Arun Gopy, is nearly complete. It marks the debut of Tamannaah Bhatia in Malayalam films, and according to rumours, she plays late actress Divya Bharti in the film.

Earlier, there were rumours about Tamannaah playing a Bollywood actress in the Dileep starrer, but this was not confirmed by the makers. Her character poster that was released last year featured Tamannaah as a performer. Apart from her and Dileep, the film is also expected to star some Tamil actors.

Who was Divya Bharti?

Divya Bharti was a Bollywood actress in the 1990s who rose to the top in a short span of time. She shared screen space with actors like Shah Rukh Khan, Govinda, and Nandamuri Balakrishna. She made her debut in films at a young age and is best known for playing the leading lady in the 1992 Shah Rukh Khan-starrer romantic drama Deewana. She was found dead at the age of 19 in her Mumbai home. While police termed it an accident, there have been several conspiracy theories surrounding her death.

What is Bandra about?

Bandra is an action entertainer that progresses through a romantic relationship between the lead actors, Dileep and Tamannaah. In an interview with OTTplay, director Arun Gopy described the film as an entertainer, adding that it doesn't have any connection with the underworld. While saying that Bandra is inspired by true events, he said that Dileep doesn't play a gangster in the film, which was speculated earlier.
