For the past few months, Mohanlal has been busy at work – acting and directing Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure. The movie, which was supposed to go on floors in 2020, began shoot last year, only to be halted a week into its shooting due to the second wave of pandemic.

While there have been several changes in the film’s casting, including actor Prithviraj Sukumaran opting out due to scheduling conflicts and several of its initially confirmed cast unable to make it to India due to the travel restrictions and fears during the pandemic, the makers resumed shoot late last year and has been sustaining that momentum since then.

Now, the film’s producer Antony Perumbavoor has shared an interesting update about the film, which also marks Mohanlal’s directorial debut. The 3D children’s fantasy, which is touted to be the most expensive movie in the actor’s career, will wrap up its shoot by April 14, says the producer, who had also backed Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham.

The film revolves around the titular character, played by Mohanlal. Barroz has been guarding the treasure of Vasco Da Gama for the past 300 years to ensure that it passes to its rightful heir. The story evolves through the relationship he forms with a young girl named Isabella.

Apart from Mohanlal, the film, which is scripted by My Dear Kuttichathan director Jijo Punnose, also has Minnal Murali actor Guru Somasundaram.

Meanwhile, there were reports that Mohanlal will be teaming up with directors Aashiq Abu and Tinu Pappachan for his next films. In an interview with Manorama Online, Antony dismissed reports of a Mohanlal-Aashiq Abu movie, saying there has been no such discussions. However, he didn’t comment about a film with Tinu, who in an earlier interview with OTTplay, said that he had narrated a script to Mohanlal but there is still no clarification on when and if the film will go on floors.

Mohanlal has also completed shooting for Jeethu Joseph’s 12th Man, Vysakh’s Monster and Shaji Kailas’ Alone.
