The magic of Barzakh has been unleashed, and viewers are now immersed in the mystic world created by Asim Abbasi. Set in a place called the Land of Nowhere, the show follows a man who makes the world call him Aaqa, or The King. He resides in a place named Mahtab Mahal, built in memory of his dead lover right at the spot where she was buried. It stands on the graves of ancestors who were the ones who did wrong in the first place. The entire chaos revolves around the King wanting to marry the love of his life, calling it his last marriage—his third. But the problem is the bride because she doesn't exist; she is dead. He wants to connect the living world to the afterlife limbo-land and reunite with his lover. How does this happen? Ask Asim Abbasi, or watch the episodes of Barzakh as they drop.

Barzakh Episode 1 Summary

Jafar is getting married at 76 and has invited his estranged children to attend his wedding at a remote resort that he owns. The Land of Nowhere welcomes Saifullah (M. Fawad Khan) and Shehryar (Fawad Khan) as they meet their father after a long time. They are still processing the vibe of the Land of Nowhere as they all get curious about his new bride. But Barzakh is about a lot more. These people are all set to meet the demons within them. There are villagers who want to free their ancestors from under the palace of the King. But at the center is a lover longing to meet his first lover who resides in limbo land.

Barzakh Episode 1 Ending Explained

The ending of Barzakh Episode 1 is divided into three parts. The first act of the climax begins as night falls and desserts are being served. As people head to their beds and as the painter continues to paint her forecast of life, a spirit walks into the room of the ancestors while the man serving desserts continues his small dance. We see her walk towards the living room where more spirits sit and catch their plates of desserts. We see them eat as the camera pans and shows an entire group of spirits possibly praying. The mystic nature of this climax is beautiful because the Aaqa controls everything around them, but this is a free world over which he has no hold.

The second act begins as we go into a flashback. Jafar went south to earn money and turn the necklace of leaves into gold for Mahtab. Upon his return, he looks at a land that has lost its shine, colors, leaves, and hues. There is just muted concrete staring back at him. The rocks hide something. He runs to his brother, asks him where Mahtab is, and breaks down. The answer to this scene lies in the third act, where we see Mahtab walking into the frame but as a ghost. She is dead, and Jafar’s return has landed him on her grave.

The third act is the most interesting. We meet Aaqa in his clueless space and the place where he is the most vulnerable. He is thinking of the times when Mahtab was alive and the time he is about to be reunited with her. There is so much to look at in the frame as the set design takes over, and Asim Abbasi paints the world in his imagination. The second episode holds a whole lot for us.
