Abhishek Bachchan marked his foray into Bollywood with JP Dutta's film Refugee in 2000. A year after his acting debut, the actor featured in filmmaker Goldie Behl's movie, Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai. It marked his first on-screen collaboration with Rani Mukerji. The project also featured Jackie Shroff and Sushmita Sen in the lead roles. For those who are unaware, Abhishek essayed the role of Suraj Shrivastav in the film while Rani Mukerji was seen as Pooja. The primary plot of the film was about Suraj who visits Mumbai from a small village to earn a degree in college. Amid this, he falls in love with Pooja. Suraj, who has come to the city with big dreams, soon becomes a smart businessman but there is a massive trap by Naved and Lara which he is unaware of.

Earlier, in an old interview with Rediff, Abhishek Bachchan spoke about his experience of working with a then-new director Goldie. The actor said, "During the first schedule of Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai, Goldie came to the airport to pick me up. We were silent in the car on our way because we were both so nervous -- it was the first film we were working on together. Then we looked at each other. And burst out laughing."

Meanwhile, on the work front, Abhishek was last seen in Ghoomer, which was a theatrical release. The actor shared screen space with Saiyami Kher and Angad Bedi. The R Balki directorial was released in 2023. Bachchan's upcoming projects are Be Happy and Shoojit Sircar's untitled film.
