Beast vs Valimai: Is it going to be a Thala-Thalapathy box office clash for Pongal 2022?

The long wait for the release announcement of Valimai has come to an end on Wednesday morning, with the makers confirming that the action thriller, starring Ajith in the lead, will make it to the theatres only on Pongal 2022. Kollywood movie buffs have been eagerly waiting to know if Valimai will lock horns with Rajinikanth-starrer Annaatthe on Deepavali. 

Films of both Rajinikanth and Ajith, Petta and Viswasam respectively, had a box office clash for 2019 Pongal. Though Valimai has now backed out of Deepavali race, Silambarasan-starrer Maanaadu will release along with Annaatthe for the festival season this year. Now, all eyes are on the release date announcement of Vijay-starrer Beast.     

The makers of Nelson's Beast have only released its first look and second look till now. Though there are speculation doing the rounds with regard to its third look, an official confirmation is awaited. There are rumours doing the rounds on the film likely to release on Pongal, though fans have to wait for some more time to get a clarity on the same. The industry insiders and fans of both Ajith and Vijay are now looking at the possible scenario of Beast and Valimai taking on each other for Pongal 2022. The last time films of both the stars clashed on the same day was eight years ago. Thala Ajith's Veeram and Thalapathy Vijay's Jilla made it to the theatres on January 10, 2014. 

Though many movie lovers have already started predicting the first day numbers at the box office, the shooting of Beast, unlike Vinoth's Valimai, is incomplete, and hence, it is too early to say something about the box office battle. Ajith and Vijay being the biggest stars of Tamil cinema after Rajinikanth, exhibitors, too, will be waiting with bated breath till an update on the release announcement of Beast is made.
