Bhagavanth Kesari, which released on October 19 this Dussehra, was Nandamuri Balakrishna’s second release of the year after Veera Simha Reddy (now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar). Sreeleela, Kajal Aggarwal and Arjun Rampal essayed significant roles in the film, written and directed by Anil Ravipudi. The film, produced by Shine Screens, was one of the biggest successes in Balakrishna’s career.
Ravi Shankar, John Vijay, Aadukalam Naren, Brahmaji, Sarath Kumar and Jayachitra form the supporting cast. After a victorious run in theatres where it collected over Rs 70 crores share, the film arrived on OTT in November. Amazon Prime Video acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights. Bhagavanth Kesari premiered on the streamer across five languages - Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Tamil.
The film has consistently found a place among the top 10 streamed titles in India over multiple weeks. The action entertainer continues to woo streaming enthusiasts this week as well. While Bhagavanth Kesari (across Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam Kannada versions) is the third most-watched title on the streamer, the Hindi version is at the seventh position on the list.
For the unversed, the film, named after the titular character(Balakrishna), is centred on an ex-cop, who safeguards a young girl named Vijji (Sreeleela) and pushes her to join the army, in a bid to fulfil her father’s last wish. What connects the criminal minded businessman Rahul Sanghvi (Arjun Rampal) to Vijji? Do Bhagavanth Kesari and Rahul Sanghvi have a past?
S Thaman scored the music for Bhagavanth Kesari, while C Ram Prasad cranked the camera. Tammi Raju edited the film and Rajeevan was the production designer. The other Telugu titles on Amazon Prime Video in the top 10 list include Dhootha (at No. 6 - available in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi and Kannada) and Tantiram (at No. 9 - available in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada).
