Musician, singer and daughter of composer Ilaiyaraaja , Bhavatharani, died on Thursday at the age of 47. As per reports, the late singer had been battling liver cancer and was at an Ayurvedic health care centre in Sri Lanka. A prolific singer who has lent her voice to many Tamil songs, various personalities from Tamil Nadu took their social media to share their condolences.

Bharathiraja, who has worked with Ilaiyaraaja in many films, was among the first to condole. "How do I comfort my friend? I extend my condolences on the demise of daughter Bhavatharini on behalf of my family,” he wrote on X.

Actor Silambarasan also took to his X account and paid his respects. He wrote, “The voice that forever lives in the heart of people for its innocence and love! You were a pure soul! Gone too soon! I pray to God to give strength to the family of Illayaraja sir and my brother @thisisysr at this moment! Rest in peace Bhavatharini.”

Actor-politician Kamal Haasan expressed his shock and sadness over Bhavatharani’s demise. Mentioning that the news comes as a shocker to him, he said that he is with Ilaiyaraaja during this difficult period and prayed for his daughter.

Bhavatharini’s career:

Bhavatharani mostly sang songs under her father or brothers Yuvan Shankar Raja and Karthik Raja compositions. She bagged the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer in 2000 for the song Mayil Pola Ponnu Onnu from Bharathi (2000), composed by Ilaiyaraaja. Meherezylaa from Maanaadu, Oliyile Therivadhu from Azhagi, Thaaliyae Thevaiyillai from Thaamirabharani are some of her famous evergreen songs. The late singer also worked as a composer in the 2002 film Mitr, My Friend which was directed by Revathi and starred Shobhana. Other films in her discography includes Phir Milenge, Avunaa, and Vellachi.

Composer Anirudh Ravichander condoled, “Shocked and saddened #RIPBhavatharini Heartfelt condolences to the family and friends..”

“Deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of #Bhavatharini madam. My heartfelt condolences to Illayaraja sir, Yuvan sir, Karthik Raja Sir and the entire family,” wrote filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj.

Composer Santhosh Narayanan called it a “tragic loss” and added, “The supremely talented and soft spoken Bhavatharini madam has left us with so many memories to treasure. Prayers and condolences to Raja sir and family.”
