Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 trailer: Manjulika strikes again to terrorise Kartik Aaryan, Kiara Advani and Tabu

The official trailer for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 was unveiled at 1 pm today, with the clip teasing the return of the infamous Manjulika whose spirit haunted the story in the 2007 horror comedy.

Here, Kartik Aaryan plays Roohan, who seems like a mischievous charlatan of sorts. He's charming, quick-witted and curious about the legend of Manjulika. 

After a night of heavy drinking, he and a friend unleash the spirit of Manjulika upon the sprawling Thakur haveli. She takes Kiara Advani's Reet hostage who starts speaking in tongues and behaving completely unlike herself. A romantic connection between Reet and Roohan is also teased in the trailer. 

The entire trailer is set to a recreated version of the title song by Tanishk Bagchi, which was originally composed by Pritam and sung by Neeraj Sridhar. 

Tabu also makes an appearance, only to warn Roohan of Manjulika's spirit and to tell him to exercise caution while dealing with restless spirits. Rajpal Yadav and Sanjay Mishra's characters provide comic relief. 

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is directed by Anees Bazmee from a script by Farhad Samji and Aakash Kaushik. 

The first movie, which came out in 2007, was a remake of Priyadarshan’s cult classic Malayalam movie Manichitrathazhu starring Suresh Gopi, Shobana and Mohanlal in the lead roles. Bhool Bhulaiyaa, which starred Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, and Rajpal Yadav, was a big hit following its release. 

One can only wonder whether this standalone sequel will be able to impress long-time fans of the now cult classic comedy. Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 will release in cinemas on May 20.
