The very first OTT edition of Bigg Boss Kannada is all set to get underway on August 6. The spin-off version of the widely popular reality TV show will premiere on Voot with Kiccha Sudeep returning to his hosting duties to allow a whole new collection of contestants to test out their socio-survival instincts inside the eponymous house.

According to the latest report, Voot is currently pursuing a sound strategy to increase its viewer base in the Kannada language and Bigg Boss Kannada (OTT) will kick off this long line-up of programmes. Having found a lot of success with its Hindi content, Voot reckons that Kannada is their next strongest market as far as regional TV content is concerned.

As revealed to The Hindu by Ferzad Palia, head of SVOD and International Business, Viacom18, the streaming platform has been buoyed by the recent success with regional material and is now aggressively doubling up on the Kannada content. Reportedly, Voot has acquired top status in the Kannada OTT market within the first six months.

The OTT version of Bigg Boss Kannada will mark the beginning of this campaign by Voot and one can expect the entire slew of shows to be revealed soon.

Bigg Boss Kannada (OTT) will be made available throughout the day for viewers with a concise version premiering every day at 7 pm, starting August 6. The show will feature the traditional format wherein multiple contestants will battle it out for the audience votes to be adjudged the winner: the “OTT edition” winner will receive a cash prize of Rs. 25 Lakhs.

The Hindi version of Bigg Boss OTT saw Karan Johar don the host's avatar for the exclusive digital season. Divya Agarwal won the maiden season with Nishant Bhat finishing as the runner-up.

Vikrant Rona star Kiccha Sudeep, who has hosted all the previous 8 TV editions of Bigg Boss, will be making his appearance every Saturday for the OTT version.

Alongside, Voot plans on releasing a new Kannada film every Friday (as revealed by the same report) to enunciate its strong focus on non-fiction content and movies. The streaming platform has been the go-to choice for many Kannada filmmakers with the likes of Rakshit Shetty, Dhananjaya, and others having exclusive OTT premieres of their films on Voot.
