The first look of Kavin's Velan, which released earlier this year, was lapped up by fans of Mugen Rao, who earned a lot of fans after his stint with Bigg Boss Tamil 3. The movie's trailer was out more than a month ago and the team had recently released a lyric video as well.
The makers, who announced that the film has obtained a U certificate after its censor was completed a couple of days ago, has now come up with an update on its release. The family drama will hit the screens on December 31. Velan becomes the first Tamil movie to announce a theatrical release on the said date.
Meenakshi Govindharajan plays the female lead in the project which has Prabhu, Soori, Hareesh Peradi, Thambi Ramaiah, Lollu Sabha Swaminathan, Mariya Vincent and Brigida among others essaying pivotal roles. Gopi Sundar has composed music for the film which has cinematography by Gopi Jagadeeswaran and editing by K Sarathkumar.
Produced by Kalaimagan Mubarak under the banner of Skyman Films International, Velan has stunt choreography by Mahesh Mathew and dialogues by Chandran Pachamuthu, Savarimuthu and Kavin. Malaysia-based independent singer and musician Mugan, who is debuting with the film, is said to be sporting two looks in the movie.
He will be seen as a high school student and as a college-going youngster in the commercial potboiler. The movie's story, which revolves around the relationship between a Tamilian and a Malayali, also touches upon the bonding between a father and a son. Soori essays the character, Mammookka Dineshan, an ardent fan of Mammootty in the film.
