Abhimanyu Dassani believes romantic films are far and few in Bollywood now, since filmmakers have been unable to sync with today’s evolving definition of love. The actor will be seen next in the romantic drama Meenakshi Sundareshwar with Saniya Malhotra.

The journey of the actor in Bollywood has been a self exploration, and understanding what he wants to do in the industry. Although one enters the cinema with expectations, it will soon require them to be flexible enough to adapt the flow of happenings, Dassani told PTI. He added that being in this industry has taught him patience.

Helmed by Vivek Soni, Meenakshi Sundareshwar is all about the journey of a young couple, in a long-distance marriage. Malhotra plays the titular role alongside Dassani.

The latter said he finds the movie a unique venture after his 2018 debut Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota.

Sharing some insights on the romance genre, Dassani said that there is a generational gap between today’s filmmakers and audiences, which makes its definition a bit confusing. The intention, duration, language and the kind of romance happening today has different dimensions, which has been facing a shift right now, he explained.

Further talking about the landscape of Bollywood, he is of the opinion that the late 90s and early 2000s witnessed the peak of larger-than-life romantic dramas from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge to Jab We Met. While coming to the present era, he feels that the romance has virtually vanished, as the industry is witnessing more biopics, war dramas and much more.
