I created a psychological map of all the characters for myself, says Tabbar director Ajitpal Singh

Punjab-set thriller series Tabbar has been receiving praises at various levels for its portrayal of family crisis. Director Ajitpal Singh who shared his insights in a recent chat with The Indian Express, said the themes in the series are close to his heart.

The SonyLIV show starring Pavan Malhotra and Supriya Pathak revolves around a retired police constable, who journyes ahead his boundaries in order to save his family from an unfortunate incident. The filmmaker revealed that he had spent too much time in the pre-production stage, trying to explore the story and the characters. He created a psychological map of all the characters, not to share with the actor, but for himself. He also added that it helped him in navigating the course of the shoot, and he had never felt things going wrong.

Malhotra and Pathak are two of the most versatile actors in the industry according to Singh. He felt it as a blessing to direct the duo, and they made him realise that if the actors are chosen wisely, one doesn't need to direct them too much.

The director is known for his short film Rammat Gammat and debut feature film Fire in the Mountains.The latter was the only Indian film to premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. After reading the script of Tabbar, the filmmaker was impressed at the moment itself, and the characters felt like they came-from-home, said him. He also added that the story of the couple who are in their late 50s and 60s was one of the attractive elements in the show for him.

Sony LIV’s Tabbar was released in 28 global territories including the UK, Australia, Singapore and New Zealand on October 15.
