Presented by Surinder Singh and Nispal Singh, Bengali sci-fi thriller Bony dropped its trailer on Youtube. The Surinder Films Pvt. Ltd. Production is based on the novel of the same name by Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay.
The trailer opens on a blissful note of a love story that blossoms into marriage and the arrival of ‘a new guest’ at Parambrata and Koel’s (who play a couple) home in Milan. Set to Anupam Roy’s pleasant song, loved-up glimpses quickly take an unexpected turn into the sombre and serious situation. Mom-to-be Koel has an accident and the doctor breaks it to an anxious Parambrata that their newborn is not fine. While you’re still wondering what it might be, Anjan Dutt, who supposedly plays an American-born Bangladeshi scientist is seen on the run from the government for his alleged terrorist links. He is heard saying, “You guys have been watched over continuously. Have you heard of artificial intelligence, through which new-borns are made into AI humanoids?” The boy Boni has superhuman abilities. Enter Kanchan Mullick to mystify the goings-on further, as he says that strange things are happening in his house too. Anjan Dutt also says that he has made a device that is the only antidote to humanoids. What follows is a montage of visuals from what looks like an edge-of-the-seat thriller set in a futuristic premise, that will unfold on the big screen this Durga Pujo.

Parambrata Chattopadhyay, who made quite an impression with his directorial debut Shonar Pahar, has helmed the film and done the story and screenplay too along with Aniruddha Dasgupta. Back in an interview with ToI in 2019, Koel Mallick had told that while she has acted with Parambrata before, this is the first time that he will be directing her. She also added that she will play his wife in the film. “The film centres around a child. I play the mother of this child. As the film progresses, you can see my character transform — from being a simple person to a tough woman,” she had told the daily.
Bony features Koel Mallick, Anjan Dutt and Kanchan Mullick in key roles along with Parambrata Chatterjee. Parambrata had earlier said that he had found the plot to be ahead of its time when he had read the novel in 1990. “The author could foresee several issues and problems that we face now,” said the Chotushkone actor while also adding that Bony is about “the emotional journey of a young couple as they unravel a mystery surrounding their child.”
The well-loved music composer Anupam Roy has done the songs while Nabarun Bose has done the background score. Sumit Chowdhury has edited the rushes. Tiyash Sen has cranked the camera. The announcement of the release date of Bony is awaited.
