Box office report: Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan beats Baahubali 2's 6-year-old record in Hindi belt

Box office report: Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan has emerged as the highest-grossing film in the Hindi belt overtaking SS Rajamouli's Baahubali 2.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's latest movie Pathaan has done the unthinkable. It has overtaken the lifetime earnings of director SS Rajamouli's pathbreaking movie Baahubali: The Conclusion in the Hindi heartland. The dubbed version of the Telugu period fantasy held the top position at the Hindi box office for about six years. And within five weeks of its release, the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer has given the Hindi film industry a much-needed moral boost. 

"Crossed The Lifetime Collections Of #Baahubali2 In Hindi. Proud Moment For Me...!!! Once Again Thanks To All The Audience Who Encouraged The Film. #Pathaan," tweeted Siddharth Anand, the director of Pathaan. 

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#Pathaan posts a solid total in Week 5… All set to emerge HIGHEST GROSSING *HINDI* FILM TODAY [sixth Fri] by crossing #Baahubali2 #Hindi… [Week 5] Fri 1 cr, Sat 1.95 cr, Sun 2.45 cr, Mon 80 lacs, Tue 75 lacs, Wed 75 lacs, Thu 75 lacs. Total: ₹ 510.65 cr. #Hindi. #India biz." 

According to reports, the lifetime collection of the Hindi version of Baahubali 2 is Rs 510 crore. And the closest film that came close to matching the film's performance was the Hindi dubbed version of the Kannada blockbuster KGF: Chapter 2. The gangster drama starring Yash became a huge hit last year earning over Rs 430 crore from its ticket sales in the north circuit alone.

Bollywood has been going through a rough patch over the last few years. While the movies made in the south found a lot of takers in the Hindi belt, many Bollywood movies with big stars tanked at the box office. However, Pathaan has lifted the gloom at the Bollywood box office and has infused the members of the fraternity with a lot of hope. 

"It (Pathaan) has been embraced throughout the nation. I don't see one particular region that hasn't come on board. It has performed well all over India, including the south," noted Girish Johar in an exclusive chat with OTTplay earlier. 

Pathaan's global collection is pegged at over Rs 1000 crore. Besides SRK, the film also stars Deepika Padukone, and John Abraham in key
