Bramayugam, the period horror thriller that stars Mammootty in the lead role, has emerged as one of the biggest blockbusters of 2024. The movie, which is an experimental film made in black-and-white format, is helmed by Rahul Sadasivan. The veteran actor plays Kodumon Potti in the film , a member of an aristocratic Brahmin family, which features Arjun Ashokan and Sidharth Bharathan in the roles of Thevan, the folklore singer and Potti’s cook, respectively.

In a recent interview with Filmibeat Malayalam, director Rahul Sadasivan opened up about creating Mammootty’s character, Kudamon Potti. The filmmaker revealed that the veteran actor was open to all ideas he suggested and even gave his creative input in designing the character.

According to director Rahul Sadasivan, Mammootty gave the green signal to Bramayugam after a 20-minute-long narration. Later, the veteran actor got into the project and adapted it to his character, Kudamon Potti, with multiple script readings. The filmmaker revealed that the multiple National Award-winner was open to all the suggestions he put forward, including using the stained prosthetic teeth and adding dark vasoori (smallpox) marks on his face.

Mammootty was also open to sporting grey hair and a beard for most of the parts. It was because the team felt that such a look could make the character more unique and intimidating. According to director Rahul Sadasivan and Sidharth Bharathan, who played a key role in Bramayugam, it is quite hard to excite an actor like Mammootty, who has done close to 425 films in his career. But the megastar is always in search of new challenges and is ready to do everything it takes to make a good film, as he mentioned during the press meet for the film.

The team recalled how excited the veteran actor, who is best known for his ‘voice acting', was during the dubbing of the film. They also revealed that Mammootty was constantly saying he wanted to do more, as he took the character Kodumon Potti to a new level with a new voice modulation.

Well, the megastar’s dedication has paid off, as the cine-goers are now heaping praise on both the film and his character. Bramayugam has now also released in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada across the globe.
