The makers of Vijay's next, Thalapathy 66 (tentative title), commenced the shooting of the project recently with an official ceremony. Rashmika Mandanna was announced as the female lead of the movie a few days before the film went on floors. Thaman has been roped in much earlier to compose music for the film. 

Leading Tollywood producer Dil Raju is bankrolling the project which has Vamshi Paidipally at the helm. The movie is the latter's second bilingual project after Thozha (Oopiri in Telugu) which released in 2016. The team is yet to make an official announcement on the details regarding its other cast and crew.

Sarath Kumar was present at the official launch of Thalapathy 66 giving rise to much speculation. Later, we learnt that the senior actor will be playing the character of Vijay's father in the movie. The story of the family drama is said to revolve around three brothers. Dil Raju had earlier revealed in an interview that the movie will be on the lines of a few yesteryear Vijay movies. 

It was heard that Mohan will be seen essaying his elder brother in the film, though an official word is awaited on the same. The latest we hear is that Shaam will be roped in to play Vijay's younger brother.

The actor had played a cameo in Vijay's Kushi two decades ago which marked his acting debut as well. Fans of Thalapathy are now eagerly looking forward to the film's cast. Earlier, Pattas fame Mehreen Pirzada's name was doing the rounds with regard to an important role in the movie. 

Though the makers are yet to announce the release date, it is likely that Thalapathy 66 will hit the screens on Pongal 2023.
