Buzz: Vikram's most-anticipated film Cobra to be postponed; official announcement expected soon

It's been three years since Vikram has had a theatrical release; Rajesh M Selva's Kadaram Kondan was his last outing. Though Mahaan, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, and starring the actor in lead role, released earlier this year, it was a direct OTT release on Amazon Prime Video.

All eyes were on Ajay Gnanamuthu's action thriller Cobra which has been in the making for a while. Sometime ago, its makers announced that the movie will be released in theatres on August 11. The audio launch of the project was organized a week ago, leaving fans of Vikram thrilled.

However, going by the speculation, the movie's release is likely to be postponed. An official announcement is awaited any time soon, though the reason remains unknown. Lalit Kumar of Seven Screen Studio has bankrolled the project which has music composed by AR Rahman.

KGF fame Srinidhi Shetty is making her Kollywood debut with this film which has cricketer Irfan Pathan debuting as an actor. Roshan Mathew, Mirnalini Ravi and Miya George among others essay crucial characters in the movie which is said to be one of the expensive projects in Vikram's career. 

The theatrical rights of Cobra in Tamil Nadu were bagged by Udhayanidhi's Red Giant Movies. The production house has acquired the rights of Bollywood film Laal Singh Chaddha, too, which is hitting the screens on August 11. Recently, Vishal's film Laththi, which was announced as a release on August 12, too, got postponed.

Fans of Vikram and other Tamil film buffs who have been waiting to watch the actor on the big screen after a three-year hiatus are disheartened to the core and took to social media to express disappointment. They hope that makers would come up with an official update soon on the film's new release date.
