And the much-awaited Cannes 2023 has already started. And like every year, this year too, celebrities from across the world have come under one roof. And representing India on the prestigious international platform are an array of celebrities including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sara Ali Khan, Esha Gupta, Urvashi Rautela, Manushi Chhillar and Mrunal Thakur. Besides then, there was the extremely talented actor Vijay Varma along with India’s ‘Oscar’ pride Guneet Monga, filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar and others. One name, who has been a regular at the global festival was prominently missing. Yes… your guessed it right. Its none other than the powerhouse of talent Nandita Das, who has carved an exclusive niche for herself in the showbiz arena.

On her part, Nandita Das took to social media and penned down her thoughts about the festival. She stated, “Sadly missing Cannes this year. Sometimes people seem to forget that it is a festival of films and not of clothes! Considering I can’t show you the amazing films I watched or the conversations I have had or take you back in time when Manto premiered there. Here are a few images through the years in Cannes. And only the ones in Saris as there is a fair amount of chatter about the ‘celebrities who wore saris in Cannes’. Well it is surely my go-to garment. Simple, elegant and Indian. Least fussy - easy to get in and get out of it! Each of the images have an interesting story behind it but too long to share. So feel free to make up your own story from the photos you see. And guess the year they are from - 2005, 20013, 2016-2018! @festivaldecannes #sarees #manto”.

On the professional front, Nandita Das was recently seen donning the real life role of a director with her film ‘Zwigato, which starred the comedy king Kapil Sharma, in a comparatively serious role. Even though the film did not set the cash registers ringing at the box-office as much was expected of the film, it did garner encouraging reviews from many critics.
