Kabali

Pa Ranjith's Kabali stars Rajinikanth in the titular role. The Superstar plays a Kuala Lumpur-based ageing gangster who is all set to take revenge on his nemesis after he gets released from prison after 25 long years. Meanwhile, he is also looking for his wife Kumudhavalli (Radhika Apte) and daughter Yogitha (Sai Dhanshika). Kaala

The film, helmed by Pa Ranjith has Rajinikanth playing Karikaalan, who protects the oppressed in the slums of Dharavi in Mumbai against a local gangster named Hari Dhadha, played by Nana Patekar. Kaala explores the themes of inequality and Rajinikanth plays a Dalit, who is a messiah to the oppressed. The film explores the plight of marginalised communities, their daily struggle, resilience, and the relentless fight against caste-based discrimination. Sivaji: The Boss

Director Shankar's Sivaji: The Boss, had Rajinikanth essaying the role of a rich software engineer Sivaji who returns to India after working in the US. But his plans to improve the quality of life of the poor here,  hits a roadblock in terms of rampant corruption and an influential political leader. This larger-than-life action hero, who leaves no stone unturned to punish the bad guys, is sheer Rajini mania. The film also stars Shriya Saran, Vivekh, Suman, Manivannan, and Raghuvaran. Music by AR Rahman was a massive hit as well.

Baashha

When it comes to Rajinikanth's repertoire, Baashha easily makes it to the top of the list. This 1995 gangster flick, helmed by Suresh Krissna, is considered an iconic film in the Superstar's career. The actor plays a dreaded gangster Baashha, who masquerades as auto driver Manickam, a simpleton. But when circumstances push him to reveal his past, things turn topsy turvy. One of the highlights of the film was Raghuvaran playing villain Mark Antony. It is said that there is still no match to the villainous charm of Raghuvaran's character in the annals of Tamil cinema.
