Captain Miller, Dhanush's period action film that hit the big screens last week, has been performing well at the box office despite receiving mixed reviews from audiences.
Dhanush, the National Award-winning actor, teamed up with talented filmmaker Arun Matheswaran for his latest outing, Captain Miller. The big-budget venture, which is a period action drama, hit theatres on January 12, 2024, as a Pongal special release. As per the recent updates, Captain Miller is now set to enter the Rs 70 crore club of the Tamil film industry when it completes its first 7 days at the releasing centres.
According to the recent updates, Captain Miller has made a total gross collection of around Rs 37 crore from the Tamil Nadu box office alone within the first 7 days of its release. Recent reports by Filmibeat suggest that the Dhanush starrer might touch the Rs 40 crore mark just with its state-wide collections by Day 8. The period action drama is also performing well at the overseas box office, and the movie has made a total collection of Rs 18 crore within its first-week run.
However, when it comes to both Kerala and Karnataka, the Arun Matheswaran directorial has clearly emerged as the winner, beating Sivakarthikeyan’s Ayalaan, which was released on the same day. The movie has reportedly made around Rs. 6 crore from Kerala, while it has made a total collection of over Rs 4.5 crore from Karnataka. From the rest of India's box office, the Dhanush starrer has made around Rs 5 crore.
In that case, the period action drama has already entered the prestigious Rs 70 crore club of the Tamil film industry by making a total collection of over Rs 70.5 crore within the first 7 days of its release. However, the makers of Dhanush and Arun Matheswaran’s ambitious project have not officially confirmed these reports so far.
Now, it is safe to assume that Captain Miller might cross the Rs 100 crore mark at the worldwide box office within its lifetime run if things proceed at the same rate. However, we will have to wait and see if the Republic Day special releases, including Mohanlal’s Malaikottai Vaaliban and Hrithik Roshan's Fighter, will impact the Dhanush starrer’s box office performance.
