Shakti Soundar Rajan's Captain, which hit the screens earlier this month, is ready for its digital premiere. The movie, starring Arya in the lead, was released in theatres on September 8, and opened to discouraging reviews. Aishwarya Lekshmi plays the female lead in the movie which has Simran, Harish Uthaman and Kavya Shetty among others essaying notable roles.
The film's trailer evoked good response among film buffs; the story revolving around an unknown dangerous creature posing a threat to army men and civilians at a peculiar spot was more than enough to make film buffs wait for the movie to release.
However, the film's unengaging screenplay made it a mediocre project, leaving cinephiles disappointed. The characterizations of a few actors, too, were criticized by film critics. The movie is Arya's first outing this year and second project with Shakti after Teddy which was released directly on Disney+ Hotstar last year.
Pradeep E Ragav and S Yuva have handled editing and cinematography respectively for the project which has music composed by D Imman. R Sakthi Saravanan and K Ganesh have jointly choreographed action sequences for Captain which was distributed by Red Giant Movies across Tamil Nadu.
Captain will drop on Zee5 on September 30, three weeks after its theatrical release. The news of Zee5 bagging the movie's digital rights was out much before its theatrical release. The digital platform has now officially announced its OTT release date.
This is one of the few Tamil movies this year to have an early OTT release owing to its not-so-encouraging response to theatrical release. Sundar C's Aranmanai 3 was the last film of Arya to have dropped on Zee5 post theatrical release.
