Basics about the 2022 FIFA World Cup

The 2022 FIFA World Cup, the pinnacle event for national football teams sanctioned by FIFA, unfolded in Qatar from November 20 to December 18, 2022, following the country's hosting rights acquisition in 2010. This marked the first World Cup hosted in the Arab and Muslim world, and the second held entirely in Asia after the 2002 tournament in South Korea and Japan.

This edition featured 32 participating teams, concluding an era as the number of teams will be increased to 48 for the 2026 edition. In a thrilling final, Argentina secured the championship by defeating the reigning titleholder, France, with a 4–2 victory on penalties after a 3–3 draw in extra time.
