Captivating the King trailer depicts a period romance

In the nearly 1-minute short trailer, we see a charismatic king whose life takes a full circle as he finds himself trapped with the weight of the throne and his position, slashing all relationships he ever had. It also hints at the period drama that delves into a story of unlikely friendship and budding romance that abruptly leads to the tale of vengeance and hatred born from unintended events.

The series is not focused on a single narrative but pans out a multi-layered storyline with a segment of romance, regret, revenge, unlikely bonds, and moral dilemmas. The royal period drama also traces the social and class differences between a king and a commoner as their relationship dynamics change from friendship to raging hate.

Captivating the King brings an impressive cast

Directed by Jo Nam Gook, the star cast is led by Jo Jung Suk as King Yi, who is renowned for Hospital playlist, and the female lead is played by Shin Se Kyung stars as Kang Hee Soo, who is best known for Bride of Habaek and Run On. The other supporting characters are played by Lee Shin Young, Yang Kyung Won, Son Hyun Joo, and Jo Sung Ha
