Directed by Jo Nam Gook of The Good Detective along with Kim Sun Deok’s composition of the screenplay, Captivating the King focuses on the conflict between the different classes as well as the social-order-disintegrating love story shared by King Yi and Kang Hee Soo. The film’s teaser trailer offers a stoic view of the game of Baduk, played between the leading two in love, plots, and controversies.

While the game adds a touch of adrenaline for viewers, just like Anurag Basu’s relevance to the game of ludo as well as the game of life and death in Cinema, Captivating the King follows the attempts of Kang Hee Soo, a plebian princess who is a commoner as well as his equal match, just not socially.

Despite the drama not offering further information, Captivating the King promises to being a splendid drama that ensures a healthy dose of love, action, loyalty, and promises. The show’s teaser focuses on the black and white tiles chosen and ruthlessly placed by the protagonists, in a game of Baduk.

The series will showcase two different timelines, with one focusing on the burgeoning friendship and romance between the Crown King and Kang Hee Soo, and the other highlighting the vengeance that a spurned Hee Soo holds in her heart and intends to apply to teach her King a lesson.
