The Jisshu Sengupta-led Bengal Tigers and the Kerala Strikers have been playing the Celebrity Cricket League since its second edition, although the latter didn’t play in 2019 and 2025. The Tigers won the championship in 2024, but were unable to defend the title, losing in the semi-final to Punjab De Sher, the eventual champions. The Strikers, on the other hand, came tantalizingly close twice, once in 2014 and then in 2017, when they lost to the Karnataka Bulldozers and the Telugu Warriors, respectively, in the finals.

This year, the Strikers are, perhaps, the team that has spent the most time and effort preparing for the tournament, with the Unni Mukundan-led side spending the good part of the last few months in practice sessions, including 15 corporate tournaments. They are a side that’s been trolled a lot by audiences back home for chocking when it matters most, a narrative that they are hoping to change this year. The Bengal Tigers, though, are a formidable side. They’ve not lost any of their group stage match, and have beaten the Strikers this season.
