It's been seven years since we saw the documentary on the legendary cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar. Yes, we are talking about Sachin: A Billion Dreams, the 2017 sports documentary on the Master Blaster, which had its theatrical release on this day that year. The film captures substantial details about Tendulkar's personal and cricket lives, revealing some previously undisclosed facets of his life. From 1983 to 2011: A journey of triumph for Sachin Tendulkar

In the documentary, we see that in 1983, when Sachin was 10 years old, he witnessed the Indian Cricket Team hoist the World Cup trophy. Twenty-eight years later, in 2011, he lifted the trophy in front of the entire world. The film encapsulates the essence of Sachin Tendulkar's love and commitment to cricket, drawing from his life story. The Master Blaster makes an appearance in the film, revealing details about his life that were previously unknown.

The makers simultaneously filmed the documentary in Marathi, Hindi, and English, and on May 26, 2017, we released it alongside the Telugu and Tamil dubs. Odisha, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Kerala all declared the film tax-free. At the box office, the film did around average.

Production and direction

Carnival Motion Pictures and 200 NotOut Productions co-produced Sachin: A Billion Dreams, while James Erskine directed it. In 2010, Sachin became the first batsman in men's cricket to hit a double century in a one-day international match against South Africa in Gwalior, creating a new record. Ravi Bhagchandka, under his label, 200 Not Out Productions, made the sports documentary following Sachin's historic score. 

AR Rahman composed the music, Irshad Kamil penned the lyrics, and Madhan Karky, Vanamali, and Subodh Khanolkar penned the lyrics in Tamil, Telugu, and Marathi, respectively.

International recognition

The film received trophies for Best Director of a Long Documentary, a Special Award for the Best Film in the Long Documentary Section, and an honorary diploma at the 11th Tehran International FICTS Festival 2018.
