Chhaava Advance Booking Day 1: While moviegoers currently have plenty of options on the big screen, the tide is set to shift as a large audience flock to one highly anticipated release this week—Chhaava. The Vicky Kaushal starrer has generated substantial pre-release buzz, which is expected to translate into impressive footfalls and a massive box-office success. The advance bookings, already reflecting this excitement, have now crossed the ₹10 crore milestone for Day 1.
Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Pictures, Chhaava is based on the life of the second Chhatrapati of the Maratha Empire, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, who ruled from 1681 to 1689. The film, mounted on a grand scale, also stars Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai Bhonsale, Divya Dutta as Sambhaji Maharaj’s stepmother Soyarabai, and Akshaye Khanna as Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. New posters have further fueled excitement for the trailer, which was released on January 22, 2025.
According to Sacnilk, the film’s advance bookings have been as strong as its promotional campaign. Chhaava has already sold over 3.18 lakh tickets for more than 11,133 shows across the country, earning approximately ₹8.88 crore for Day 1—excluding blocked seats. When including blocked seats, the total climbs to ₹10.82 crore. Maharashtra is the biggest contributor, accounting for ₹5.67 crore in pre-sales.

Chhaava has been certified U/A 16+ by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), though it underwent several modifications. Certain dialogues were altered, such as changing “Mughal sultanat ka zehar” (The poison of the Mughal Sultanate) to “Uss samay, kayi shaasak aur sultanat khud ko zinda rakhne ki koshish kar rahe the” (At that time, many rulers and sultanates were trying to survive). Similarly, “Khoon toh aakhir Mughalon ka hi hai” (After all, the blood is that of the Mughals) was changed to “Khoon toh hai Aurang ka hi” (After all, the blood is Aurangzeb’s).
Additional changes included toning down words like haramzaada and replacing “Aameen” with “Jai Bhavani.” The CBFC also requested the removal of a scene depicting Maratha warriors wearing sarees and revisions to several dialogues. Furthermore, numerical references in the script were modified: “14 saal” was changed to “16 saal,” “24 saal ka ladka” to “22 saal ka ladka,” and “9 saal” was replaced with “kayi saal.”
Chhaava is set to release in theaters on February 14, 2025. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more updates on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
