Chhaava Box Office Collection Day 8: The buzz around Chhaava is so intense that no one had anticipated or calculated its impact in early estimates. Originally slated for a December 6, 2024, release, the film was postponed to February 14, 2025, and fans are finally witnessing it now. Based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the movie has been making headlines, and there’s no sign of the frenzy dying down. As it enters its second week and approaches its second weekend, Chhaava has once again pulled in over ₹20 crore in a day. Below is everything you need to know.
Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Pictures, Chhaava is based on the life of the second Chhatrapati of the Maratha Empire, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, who ruled from 1681 to 1689. The movie is a grand spectacle featuring Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai Bhonsale, Divya Dutta as Sambhaji Maharaj’s stepmother Soyarabai, and Akshaye Khanna as Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. It was released in Indian theatres on February 14, 2025.
According to Sacnilk, the Vicky Kaushal starrer has successfully maintained its momentum, earning ₹23 crore on Day 8. This brings its total collection to ₹242.25 crore so far. However, it fell just ₹2 crore short of surpassing URI: The Surgical Strike (₹244 crore), Vicky’s highest-grossing film. The milestone is expected to be crossed tomorrow.
Chhaava opened with ₹31 crore on February 14, followed by ₹37 crore on Saturday and ₹48.5 crore on Sunday. It saw a slight dip on Monday, earning ₹24 crore, and remained in the same bracket through the weekdays. It collected ₹25.25 crore on Tuesday and ₹32 crore on Wednesday, benefiting from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti holiday. Thursday saw earnings of ₹21.5 crore. As the film enters its second weekend, it will be interesting to see what new records it sets.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Vicky Kaushal shared a fascinating anecdote about filming the Rajya Abhishek scene in Chhaava. He said: "The Rajya Abhishek sequence, where Sambhaji walks toward the throne, was incredibly special. Thousands of people were on set, and the scene was meticulously researched and long-awaited. But what made it truly surreal was realizing that the day we were shooting—January 16, 2024—was the exact same date, 350 years ago, when the real coronation took place at Raigad Fort on January 16, 1681.”
He added, “It felt like a higher power was guiding us. That realization overwhelmed us. In the scene, I had to walk 20 steps, look at the throne, and ascend to take my place. But every time I approached it, I would start crying—I don’t even know why. We ended up doing nearly 50 takes. The energy on set was pure and electric; it was an unforgettable experience.”
