Director Pa Ranjith is yet to announce the release of his forthcoming movie Natchathiram Nagargiradhu, the teaser of which was released a couple of days ago. But it looks like he's excited to begin his next, starring Vikram in the lead. Tentatively titled Chiyaan 61, the movie was officially launched today.

The news of Vikram and Ranjith teaming up was announced a few months ago by producer Gnanavel Raja who is bankrolling the untitled film. A few pictures and videos from the launch have been doing the rounds on social media.

There was speculation about either Anirudh or GV Prakash coming on board to compose music for the movie. Now, the presence of the latter in the project has been confirmed as he was spotted at the launch event. GV had earlier composed music for Vikram-starrers Deiva Thirumagal and Thaandavam.

This is the second film of Ranjith without music by Santhosh Narayanan. His upcoming movie Natchathiram Nagargiradhu has music by Tenma. Though there are rumours about an alleged rift between the musician-filmmaker duo, they are yet to open up about it.

Chiyaan 61 is billed as a period flick which is set against the backdrop of the popular Kolar Gold Fields in Karnataka. It is heard that the story of the movie will be set in the 19th century. Kishor Kumar and Selva will be handling cinematography and editing respectively for the movie which has Moorthy on board to helm its production design.

Anbariv has been brought on board to choreograph action scenes while Sandy will be composing dance moves. An announcement on the film's cast is expected to be made soon. The project is likely to go on floors in the last week of August.
