Clint Eastwood is omnipresent in Jigarthanda Double X, which is Karthik Subbaraj's love letter to the art of cinema.
Filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj's latest film Jigarthanda Double X has caught the attention of Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood. Eastwood's social media team announced that the legendary Dirty Harry actor will be watching the Tamil film, currently available on Netflix, as soon as he wraps up his upcoming directorial project, Juror No. 2.
Responding to a fan's post bringing the film to the filmmaker's attention, Clint Eastwood Official, the star's official account, shared the following tweet: "Hi. Clint is aware of this movie, and he states he will get to it upon completion of his new film, Juror 2. Thank you."
Clint Eastwood is omnipresent in Jigarthanda Double X, which is Karthik's love letter to the art of cinema. Set in the 1970s, the film's protagonist Allius Caesar (Raghava Lawrence) is a die-hard fan of Eastwood. Caesar falls in love with movies and Eastwood's charisma when he runs into the Hollywood star in a Tamil village called Melakuyikud.
According to the story, Caesar saves Eastwood from a rowdy bull during the filming of a movie in Melakuyikud, and as a gesture of gratitude, Eastwood gifts him a handheld camera shaped like a gun, a crucial element in the narrative.
Caesar becomes such a frantic admirer of the Hollywood icon that he screens only Eastwood's movies in his theatre. He also kills his rivals in cowboy-style gunfights akin to the ones seen in Eastwood's Westerns.
Last month, when Eastwood started to shoot a new project at the age of 93, Karthik took to social media to express his admiration. "The Legend on Set at the age of 93 By any chance is he shooting in ' Melakuyikudi ' ? #JigarthandaDoubleX is Our heartfelt tribute to the legend #ClintEastwood," the Tamil director tweeted.
Jigarthanda Double X also stars S. J. Suryah and Nimisha Sajayan in the lead roles.
