In 2022, maestro AR Rahman will be returning to Mollywood after a gap of two decades with three projects. The music director, who was roped in to compose for Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Aadujeevitham and is also part of Mohanlal’s upcoming ‘mass’ entertainer Aaraattu, has now been confirmed for C U Soon and Malik duo Fahadh Faasil and Mahesh Narayanan’s upcoming movie Malayankunju, which has completed shooting recently.
Malayankunju, which is produced by filmmaker Fazil, is directed by Sajimon Prabhakaran, who had earlier assisted Mahesh Narayanan, VK Prakash and Venu. The movie, which is scripted and cinematographed by Mahesh Narayanan, went on floors earlier this year, but was brought to a halt after Fahadh sustained an injury during the shoot. The team resumed the shoot after the second lockdown.
The team will be releasing the first look of the movie on December 24 along with announcing its release date. Sources from the team also confirmed that AR Rahman will indeed be the film’s music director.
Rahman will also be scoring for Prithviraj’s Aadujeevitham, which will resume shooting next year in Algeria, Jordan and India. The movie, based on Benyamin’s eponymous novel, was the first Malayalam project Rahman had signed on after the 1992 superhit Yoddha, which had Mohanlal in the lead.
Coincidentally, Rahman and Mohanlal will also be sharing screen space in B Unnikrishnan’s Aaraattu, which is scheduled for a theatrical release on February 10, 2022. Rahman will be seen in a cameo as himself in the movie, which is scripted by Pulimurugan’s Udaykrishna.
Meanwhile, Fahadh and Mahesh Narayanan are all set to team up again for Netflix’s upcoming anthology based on MT Vasudevan Nair’s short stories. The duo’s segment is based on Sherlock and will be among the 10 segments that will feature in the anthology that is expected to release early next year.
